Frequently asked questions

Connecting, tickrate, listings and moderation. New to the format? Start with what a retake server is.

How do I connect to a server from this list?

Two ways. The Connect button hands the server to Steam and launches CS2 into it. Copy IP puts the full console command on your clipboard instead.

To use the command, turn on the console under Settings → Game → Enable Developer Console, press ~ in game, paste and hit enter.

The Connect button does nothing. What now?

Some browsers block steam:// links, and some block them silently. Use Copy IP and paste the command into the CS2 console instead — it always works.

Is 128 tick better than 64 tick?

It depends what you are training for. 128 tick matches FACEIT and most third-party leagues; 64 tick matches Valve matchmaking.

Either way, ping matters more. A nearby 64-tick server will feel better than a 128-tick server on another continent, so filter by region first and pick tickrate second.

Cards do not show a tickrate: Valve does not expose it in the query public trackers rely on, so the figure is unverifiable for almost every server. More on tickrate here.

Why don’t you show live player counts?

Because we would rather show nothing than show something wrong. Most listings here were verified against public trackers, and those trackers report a point-in-time snapshot that is stale within minutes.

Where a card shows a slot count, that is the server’s configured capacity, not a live headcount. Live querying is on the roadmap; until it lands, treat the map on a card as indicative and check the server yourself.

Does it cost anything to list my server?

No. Listing is free, there is no revenue share, and we do not take a cut of donations or VIP sales. See how to list a server.

How long does a listing take to go live?

Usually within a day. We check the server responds and that the details match before adding it.

How do I update or remove my listing?

DM @fpsheaven on Twitter from an account we can tie to the listing, or re-submit the listing form with the new details.

Do you run these servers?

No. CSRetakes is a directory. Every listed server is owned and run by the community that submitted it, and bans, VIP, complaints and downtime are handled by that server's own team.

I was banned on a listed server. Can you help?

We cannot lift bans on servers we do not operate. Contact that server's own admins through their community.

What gets a listing rejected?

Servers that are not actually retake, servers that are down when we check, gambling or skin-site fronts, and anything running malicious redirects or forced downloads.

My frames are bad on retake servers. Any fix?

Retake is CPU heavy in a way deathmatch is not — ten players, live utility and a round reset every thirty seconds. Our sister site FPSHeaven publishes CS2 performance guides that cover most of it.
